Self-presentation
The second no less important difference is that the Americans are amazing speakers, they have it in their blood. They are taught from childhood: at school, then at the institute – how to market themselves correctly, how to pass interviews.
For example, when a student studies in the MBA program, he has been practicing the art of self-presentation for almost two years. When you come to the States, you come across polished, polished, precise, ideal people from the point of view of self-presentation.
Summary
The resume plays a huge role in the States, and it is clearly standardized.
Fundamental rules:
The resume should fit on one page. Well, at least you crack! This shows how well you prioritize. It should only have basic skills and experience.
Focus on achievement. For example, in Europe, processes are often prescribed: “I worked with designers or programmers”. In America, these are obvious things that are not worth writing about - it is very strange if you were a product and did not work with programmers.
In the States, a resume is written in this format:
- I launched a feature that brought such and such a result.
- Leading a team of ten people, which earned so much money.
- I assembled a product team from scratch, which provided a benefit.
- Describe what the end result was. Tell us what you did and what the result was.
Due to the huge number of incoming resumes within companies, they are selected by robots. Therefore, it is important to add keywords. For example, agile, analytic skills, machine learning. Words that are specific to a particular job.
It will be a shame not to get to the interview, because the robot weeded you out. Therefore, if the vacancy specifies machine learning, add this phrase to your resume at least in this way: “I want to develop in machine learning.”
