Testing of candidate
There are simply no test items in the States at the first two stages. Interviews are flowing due to the huge number of candidates, so tests are needed only in the final. In Europe, I was faced with the fact that the test is given even before the interview, and often they were from the series “about everything and about nothing.”
Google, Facebook, Amazon, instead of test tasks, offer to solve cases, and smaller projects do the same. Cases are similar to test tasks, but they are solved right there at the interview, in ten minutes. The main difference between a case and a test case is that in a dialogue with the interviewer you can ask questions: what is the purpose of the product, why do you want to solve this problem, where did you have a problem before. And focusing on the answers, you come to the right decision.
Assignments offer different: how to improve the product, calculate metrics, calculate hatches in Boston. But they are all predictable and formulaic. Therefore, it is necessary that a clear framework is deposited in the head – how to answer such questions. There is little time in the interview, and the result is required from you.
